Justin Maki is a 24-year-old acoustic singer-songwriter out of London, Ontario. His compositions area fusion of passionately sung melodies and elaborate vocal harmonies; groovy guitar passages and melodic bass lines; rhythmically intense percussion and silky string arrangements-all juxtaposed onto poetic lyrics, exploring themes of love, adversity, mental health, global crises, and personal aspirations. While he categorizes his last album as “acoustic alternative rock”(a Punk Goes Acoustic take on the City and Colour vibe), his new album diversifies into country, jazz, and folk.
Justin’s love for performing began when he enrolled in the St. Thomas “Studio Arts” rock school at 11 years old. This fertile creative space allowed him to discover his faculty for singing, guitar playing, and songwriting. With the onset of high school, however, he left the studio, formed an alternative rock outfit, called Undying Promise, and began pursuing a solo career. In addition to securing several festival gigs and radio/TV appearances throughout its life, Undying Promise won a Jack Richardson Music Award and was dubbed the champion of 104.7 Heart FM’s “Big Break 5” competition, both in 2010. In the same year, Justin performed at Canadian Music Week in Toronto, further expanding his breadth of contacts and music business expertise.
Justin is in the process of organizing Cross Canada Tour 2.0, where, in fall of 2018,he will trek to the eastern most border of Canada with guitar in hand.
